ABOUT THE ARTIST

Young Ian Penn is an old soul evoking the wisdom of timeless folk music legends like Bob Dylan, and Pete Seeger. His first single, Headback Home, was released October 15, 2014. Penn is based in the Pampanga countryside writing songs in the shadow of Mount Arayat. Inspired to write by Canadian icon Neil Young’s album Out on the Weekend, Penn assembled his latest batch of songs for his EP, Wild Abandon, with the intention of inspiring listeners to reflect on their own lives and experiences. Penn’s hope is that listeners will see themselves in his songs, a similar wish, he notes, to that expressed by Joni Mitchell in a rare interview with the CBC: “If you listen to that music and you see yourself, it will probably make you cry and you’ll learn something about yourself and now you’re getting something out of it.” The end result of Wild Abandon is a collection of what the now Manila-based performer likes to call “road songs,” six thoughtful, simple and contemplative songs that he envisions people taking on long road trips as a soundtrack to landscapes unfolding around them as they drive.

Sign On My Window: Exclusive Single + B-Side from San Francisco-based Yea-Ming and The Rumours

Christine Mazur

If 1960‘s German singer Nico was reincarnated as the love child of Johnny Cash with a touch of 1950s Doo-Wop in 21st Century San Francisco’s Bay Area, that child would be singer Yea-Ming Chen, backed by an assortment of talented, fun-loving musicians.

Lilystars Records is pleased to introduce these American indie minstrels with the release of an exlusive single, Sign On My Window, a charming, timeless waltz about love and loss. The simple tune compliments and lays bare the heartbreak in the lyrics. Melancholy but danceable, Yea-Ming and The Rumours put a sweet spin on this breakup song that anyone who has loved and lost will connect with.

This single comes with a bonus B-Side, Let Me Stand Close to the Water. This wistful, introspective tune calls to mind a more innocent time; carefree summer afternoons from years gone by. A somewhat bittersweet ballad, it is perfect for reflective moments of times gone by.
